Obituary for Akiko Edith Sakai October 31, 1923-April 30, 2026

Akiko Edith Sakai passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, in her 103rd year (widow of the

late Katsushige Sakamoto). 

Dear mother of Wendy (widow of Brian McDermott) and Grant (Diane Loisel, grandmother of

Simon and Laurence, great grandmother of Charlie). 

Survived by her sister Chiyo Sakai Brydon (late Jock Brydon) and brother John Shuichi (late

Emi Gwen Hayakawa). 

Predeceased by the Sakamoto brothers-in-law Minoru (late Kimi), Bill (late Bessie), Yuki (late

Omiye), Koichi (late Tiny Satoru), late sister-in-law Kimi Hayakawa (late Happy). She is survived

by 3 generations of nieces and nephews and cousins in California. 

Funeral services were held on May 13, 2026, at Rideau Memorial Gardens where she is buried

next to her beloved husband.
